PAN DENOUNCES ESCALATING POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN ZAMBIA<\/p>\n

\nLUSAKA, ZAMBIA \u2013 The Paralegal Alliance Network (PAN) Zambia strongly condemns the
\nrising incidents of political violence in the country and calls for immediate, decisive action
\nfrom law enforcement officials and political leaders to safeguard peace and human rights.
\nWe are particularly saddened by the loss of life in Mazabuka and Kaputa districts as a result
\nof political violence. As a consortium dedicated to access to justice, human rights, and the
\nrule of law, PAN views the recent surge in politically motivated clashes with deep concern.
\nPolitical violence fundamentally undermines the democratic fabric of Zambia, restricts civic
\nspace, and instils fear in ordinary citizens, particularly vulnerable groups who rely on a
\npeaceful environment to access justice and social services.<\/p>\n
Violence has no place in Zambia\u2019s democratic dispensation. Political differences must be
\nresolved through peaceful dialogue, mutual tolerance, and established legal channels rather
\nthan physical confrontations or intimidation.
\nPAN urgently demands the following actions:
\n– To the Zambia Police Service: We call for the immediate, impartial, and thorough
\ninvestigation of all perpetrators of political violence, regardless of their political
\naffiliation. Law enforcement must act professionally and apply the law equally to
\nrestore public confidence.
\n– To Political Party Leaders: We urge leaders across the political spectrum to publicly
\ndenounce violence, restrain their youth wings, and actively promote a culture of
\npeace and tolerance among their supporters.
\n– To the General Public and Civil Society: We encourage all citizens to reject political
\nmanipulation and violence, and instead champion peace, unity, and respect for
\nhuman rights.
\nPAN remains committed to promoting a just and peaceful society where the rights of all
\nZambians are protected. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support
\nlegal frameworks that ensure accountability and justice for all victims of political violence.
