PLANS TO HOLD INDABA TO DISCUSS GROWING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN ZAMBIA UNDERWAY
By Lukundo Nankamba

Community Development and Social Services Minister Doreen Mwamba says plans are underway to hold an indaba before the end of this year on how the country can address growing mental health issues.

Ms. Mwamba says this is because Zambia has continued witnessing a rise in the number of horrible cases of either suicide or killings which are seemingly caused by mental health stress.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Ms. Mwamba says government is aware of the effects that mental health has on a person hence wants to expand mental health and suicide prevention services throughout Zambia.

She has also noted the gap between the need and access to mental health professions which is wider among some populations, including those in rural areas.
